About Gary Dollar
Gary S. Dollar is an Eagle Scout and long time active Scouter. He has served as a volunteer in the Utah National Parks Council for more than 29 years.
Positions held are Council Executive Board, Executive Committee, Council VP, Asst. Council Commissioner, Alpine District Commissioner, and Alpine District Training Chairman. He has served 17 times as a Course Director or Asst. Director for Timberline and Varsity All Stars. He also has served on 13 Wood Badge Courses and twice as the Course Director.
The Utah National Parks Council recognized Gary in 1988 with the Silver Beaver Award. In May of 2009 Gary was honored at the National BSA Court of Honor in Orlando, Florida with the distinguished Silver Antelope Award.
Currently he serves as a Cub Master in the Alpine 6th Ward. Other assignments in Scouting he currently holds are:
- LDS/BSA Relationship Committee
- Utah Natl. Parks Council Executive Board Member
- Western Region, Area II Program Chairman
- National Executive Board Member
One of Gary’s unique talents is hand carving scout bolo ties out of wood. Gary and his mentor Bill Burch have carved collectively more than 56,000 bolo ties – 8,000 of those being Gary’s.
Gary loves, and is committed to, Varsity Scouting. He is one of 16 men that wrote the Varsity Scout Guidebook and Gary and a friend Floyd Hatch created the Varsity Play Book for the LDS Church under the direction of President Charles Dahlquist former Young Men General President. Gary has traveled all across our nation teaching Varsity leaders how to successfully run the Varsity program.
